ASTEC Eyes is a network analyzer, effective and suitable for the network management with intuitive user interface.ASTEC Eyes measures the network traffic, collects packets and analyzes them in detail. With ASTEC Eyes, you can get information to prevent network troubles and/or resolve network problems already occurred.

Monitoring
- Traffic Statistics
MAC layer and IP layer traffic statistics shown include the breakdowns by source addresses, destination addresses, host pairs and protocols, as well as the whole traffic. For MAC layer, traffic statistics by packet sizes and address types are also shown.
The statistical data will be displayed in a line chart, a bar chart, a pie chart, or a detailed table format.
- Long Term Analysis (Logging)
By collecting statistics data (logging) for a month or more, you can analyze the trend of traffic. The smallest time span in statistics may vary according to the whole duration of the logging.
- Analyzing Packets
ASTEC Eyes capture the packets flowing through the network to analyze them in detail. ASTEC Eyes can decode more than 100 protocols such as IP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, and SSH (Supported Protocols List).
IPv6, IPX, and EtherTalk protocols are partially supported.ASTEC Eyes can decode the contents of the files generated by other tools. Those files can be in Sniffer compatible format, Microsoft Network Monitor compatible format, tcpdump compatible format, and snoop compatible format.
- Continuous Capturing (Long Term Capturing)
ASTEC Eyes can capture packets continuously and save the captured data directory into files. The data can be decoded afterwards.
- Stream View
The stream view reassembles TCP virtual streams in the captured data, to show application layer packets decoded more effectively.
- Convenience Filter
The convenience filters (the caption filter and the header attribute filter) can screen and display the decoded packets easily by interactive operations without using logical expressions.
Caption filter displays olny the packets whose addresses, protocols, and so on, shown in the summary pane, match those you select from the column caption menu. Header attribute filter displays only the packets whose attributes in the protocol headers (e.g. port numbers and/or addresses) match those you selected.
- Other Filters
Monitor filter is the filter to screen the statistical data to be monitored. Capture filter is the filter to screen the packets to be captured. Start capture trigger and Pause capture trigger are the filters to specify when to start and pause capturing. Display filter is the filter to screen the packets to be displayed in the Decode/Streeam View.
- Filter Editor
ASTEC Eyes provides the graphical filter editor to create and modify the logical expressions in monitor filters, capture filters, start capture triggers, pause capture triggers, and display filters.
- Workspace
You can classify the information in windows by workspaces and switch them easily. You can save the status of the workspaces.
- Searching Host Names
ASTEC Eyes has two modes of searching the host name for an address:
- Passive search, which makes an address-name mapping automatically from the collected packets.
- Active search, which makes an address-name mapping by querying the name servers.
Active search queries NIS, DNS, and/or WINS (NetBIOS) server. You can choose the name server to query.
- Importing and Exporting Data
You can save the statistical data gained by monitoring into a file in CSV format, or copy and paste into other applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Word Pad, adn Notepad.
You can save the captured data into a file in Sniffer uncompressed format and load it. The bzip2 compression is supported as well.
- Network Interface
ASTEC Eyes can monitor or capture the packets of multiple network interfaces at the same time. Error frames can be detected as far as the network interface provides the functionality.
- Remote Watching
ASTEC Eyes can monitor remote networks using Remote Modules installed into remote PCs.
A Remote Module can collect the information as ASTEC Eyes can. You can monitor and collect the information for more than one networks each of which has a PC installed with the Remote Module. Conversely, you can also monitor a network with a PC installed with the Remote Module from many networks, if you wish, at the same time.* An Optional Remote Module is required for remote watching.
- Expert Analysis
Symptoms of network troubles will be detected and reported while monitoring.
ASTEC Eyes watches the network traffic constantly and notify the user of suspectible situations such as:
- Continuous heavy traffic
- Duplication of IP addresses
- Frequent TCP retransmissions
- Insufficient TCP receive buffer (frozen window), and
- Too late TCP ACK (late ack).
